Hanna IV became a third-generation leader of this dominant, family-owned real estate business in 2023. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based Hanna Holdings is the seventh largest real estate enterprise in the U.S. with more than $37 billion in 2023 sales volume and 109,906 transaction sides from its nearly 14,000 franchise and brokerage agents.
Taken on its own, the Howard Hanna Real Estate franchise brand is the nation’s 13th largest by sales volume with more than 10,000 agents doing $24.2 billion in annual sales. In addition to the growing franchise business, the firm also operates in-house ancillary services, which are deeply embedded in all locations and provide steady profits.
In 2024, Hanna oversaw the launch of an initiative leveraging the company’s integrated services with a program that gives homebuyers a 0.5% credit at closing who sign a Howard Hanna buyer agent agreement and use the company’s mortgage services.
Hanna, who held leadership positions in many areas of the family company while working with his father and aunt, has long spearheaded the firm’s expansion goals. Today, the brokerage operates in 13 states. In 2024, it continued its expansion in the eastern U.S. with acquisitions in Southwestern Ohio and South Carolina’s Lowcountry.
As the leader of the industry’s largest family-owned brokerage company, one that continues to grow, innovate and aggressively expand, Hanna remains firmly among the 10 most powerful leaders in residential real estate.
